刚从瑞典回京没几天,陈黔来电话,要我去听他的"交响管乐作品音乐会"。放下电话,心里有感。一是为小老弟高兴。二是好奇,因为我从来没在现场听过纯管乐队的音乐会。
Mr.Chen Qian was a student of Prof.Huang Wanpin in the Composition Department of Sichuan Conservatory of Music in Chengdu. With solid composing techniques,he has become a master of over a hundred different kinds of wind instruments, and by applying his mature thoughts for symphony orchestra works, has composed various works with great flexibility and wonderful sound effects. However,in my personal view,he uses too much such instruments as cymbal,Peking gong and pan-ku.It meems as if the composer intends to say:″hei, this is the very Chinese style!″ Of the five pieces by Chen Qian in the concert on March 10,2012,the only one without the annoying cymbal,Peking gong and pan-ku is his ″Kabalaye″ for trumpet and orchestra. But what really attracted me this time was something else.According to the concert programme, this piece is a Uighur folk song from Xinjiang.Normally, composers of Han ethnic group with systematic training from Western-style music colleges rearranged Xinjiang folk songs or composed music with elements of Xinjiang folk songs because they were attracted by its exotic melodies or its musical scale of minor seconds very close to that of the Western music. In other words,it is only material, rather than the essence, that they were dealing with. The real essence lies in the system of Western music and its techniques that music colleges teach.Regretfully, however, there is lack of flexibility in the Chinese Han people's sense of rhythm and in that of the post-Renaissance Western professional composers as well.On the contrary, music rhythm of the Turkic-speaking people is full of vitality and flexibility, and is often excluded from the academic circle by the self-conceited people. For instance, most Han composers with systematic Western music education and most composers of Western music academies know that two triple beats make six beats, and three triple beats make nine beats, but they hardly know that three beats plus four beats makes a very fast-moving seven beats;they know about duple or quadruple time, but hardly
