Since the 1980s,French libraries have developed very fast and formed their characteristics.The author presents the general situation on French libraries and mentions specially the contribution of Mitteran to the development of French libraries, the functions of library association, librarians' social position, library science education, public libraries and the application of Internet in French libraries.
