Stephen Crane(1871—1900) saw life as hard, perhaps cruel. His style has been called realistic, naturalistic and impressionistic . He tried to give an accurate showing of the scene as a whole rather than concentrating on detail like an impressionist painter. His style is also marked by the use of vivid colour and imagery "The Open Boat" is the best known of Crane’s later stories. The subject
