摘要
斯坦贝克的小说《珍珠》内涵丰富,可以从不同的层面加以解读。本文从隐喻的视角进行分析,认为作者在小说中既运用了丰富的隐喻语言,又巧妙地使得"珍珠"具有多层隐喻义。"珍珠"即讽喻着"邪恶"之义,又可以从《圣经》的角度得到与《圣经》相关的道德观念的隐喻及诠释,这种邪恶与美善的交融加深了作品的内涵。本文试将分析文中隐喻语言的特征并对"珍珠"的隐喻义在语篇中的建构进行解读。
The Pearl,one of Steinbeck′s nov- els,may conclude many connotations if viewed from different prospectives. From the metaphoric angle,this paper reveals that the novel contains plenty of metaphoric language,and the'pearl'has been endowed significant multi- metaphoric meanings by the author. The'pearl'may be annotated with an allegorical meaning of'evil'and with the relation of morality in the Bible. The blend of the metaphoric mean- ing of evil and virtue may deepen its theme.This study attempts to analyze the metaphoric meaning of the'pearl'in discourse construction as well as metaphoric language.
