摘要
委婉语是人类社会使用语言过程中一种普遍现象。文章从语音、构词、语法、修辞四个方面阐述了英语委婉语的构成方式。从言语交际角度看,英语委婉语本质上体现为一种间接言语行为,目的在于表达说话人的意向含义。英语委婉语更体现为一种交际策略,集中体现为禁忌、礼貌和粉饰三大交际功能。
Euphemism,as a social linguistic phenomenon,has a great effect on daily commu- nication.The four expressive techniques of English euphemism are exemplified in this paper.From the angle of speech communication,English euphemism is in essence an indirect act of speech,with its aim being to convey the intended meaning of the speak- er.It is also a communicative strategy that typically represents these three functions: taboo,politeness and tactful expression.
