摘要
苔丝和珍妮两位主人公处在不同时代背景,在生活的重压下,她们受到贫穷与贞洁观的逼迫,被迫沦为他人情妇,追求甜蜜爱情与幸福婚姻的理想化做泡影。本文通过对两个人物形象进行分析与比较,笔者指出纯洁、善良的苔丝和珍妮是"堕落"的伪善道德观念制度下的无辜受害者。
Tess of the D＇Urbervilles and Jennie Gerhardt are two famous leading characters in the well-known novels of the same titles.The distinctive differences and resemblances in their miserable life have been presented in a detailed illustration through the comparison and contrast between Tess and Jennie in terms of the conflict between their own ethnical standards and the need to sacrifice their own interest for the families.As the innocent victims of the cruel social systems, they are pure in morality, not fallen in nature.
