摘要
专门用途英语（ESP）的价值在于本质上它是一种能够满足特定需求的教学实践。但国内ESP研究状况表明，对ESP具体教学实践案例研究较少。本文从课程设置、需求分析、教材、教学方法、师资配备、教学测试等方面对上海电力学院英语专业开设的ESP课程“电力英语”做了描写性研究，旨在提供一个有启发意义的研究案例，以探讨解决ESP教学中的共性问题。
The true value of ESP （English for Specific Purposes） lies in that it is in essence a practical educational activity addressing certain specific needs. The ESP research so far in China, however, provides few case studies on teaching of ESP courses. This paper carries out a descriptive case study of an ESP course ＂English for Electric Power Industry＂ offered in Shanghai University of Electric Power, which deals with the aspects of course planning, needs analysis, teaching materials, teaching methods, teaching staff and teaching evaluation. The paper aims at giving some inspiration for the solution of common problems in ESP teaching practice.
