Objective To investigate the value of percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy(PEG) in neural dysphagia patients. Methods From Jan 2008 to May 2010, 46 patients with neural dysphagia were received PEG and followed up. Results PEG was successfully performed in all patients in an average time of 15 minutes. The longest duration of the tube stay was 2 years. The tube blockage occurred in 1 patient, infection of skin around the opening in 3 patients, the skin granulation hyperplasia in 1 patient, and reflux esophagitis in 2 patients. No severe complications happened. Conclusions Percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy is a valuable approach of enteral nutrition for patients with neural dysphagia because of its high efficiency, safety and convenience.
