摘要
后殖民主义理论以其锋利的文化政治批评契合了现代翻译研究的文化政治转向,为文学翻译研究提供了更加多元和广阔的研究视角。具有独特西方文化身份和价值观,有着浓厚自我东方主义思维的中国翻译家林语堂在后殖民文化语境中对《老残游记》的英译本进行了文化霸权的操控,包括在人物形象、写景状物、叙事模式、修辞和语言符号中等进行了相应的文化形象的变形,这正彰显了当面对强势的西方文化与弱势的东方文化碰撞时,"翻译,作为一种实践,在殖民主义操纵下的不对称关系中得以成形"。
Post-colonialist characteristics of striking politics agree with the cultural and political turn of translation and provide much broader and more multiple cultural vision and strategies for its research.Lin Yutang,a Chinese translator with a uniquely-western cultural background and a strong color of self-orientalism,exercises much cultural hegemony on his English version Lao Can You Ji in the postcolonial context,including the cultural distortion in characterizations of characters,setting,narrative patterns,rhetorical devices and linguistic signs.Hence,"Translation as a practice shapes and takes shape within the asymmetrical relations of power that operate under colonialism"(Niranjana 1992:2).
