摘要
美国著名作家菲利浦.罗斯于2001年出版了凯佩什系列小说的第三部《垂死的肉身》,在评论界引起好评。文章从新现实主义视角解读小说《垂死的肉身》,旨在探讨当代美国人精神悲剧的同时,揭示作品中美国移民在当代美国社会的境遇和危机,并指出作品中罗斯将凯佩什的个体经历置于美国社会的历史文化背景下去思考具有十分重要的现实意义。
Philip Roth,one of the most prominent American writers,published the third book of Kepesh series The Dying Animal in 2001,which aroused a favorable feedback from the critics.This paper intends to interpret The Dying Animal from the neo-realism perspective and probe into the spiritual tragedy of the contemporary Americans.It also aims to reveal the condition and crisis of the immigrants in the contemporary American society and illustrate the important realistic meanings of portraying the experience of Kepesh in the specific American historical and cultural period.
