摘要
以薇拉·凯瑟的第一部草原小说《啊,拓荒者!》为分析案例,论文旨在通过考察作品的创作动机,人物塑造及承载的意义来正确解读文本意蕴。揭示凯瑟创作的先锋性及透过作品所弘扬的拓荒精神,不仅丰富了正在崛起的美国民族文学,而且在追寻传统美德的过程中,沟连起过去、现在和未来。
Oh Pioneers!,the first prairie novel written by Cather,is used as a case study in this paper which aims at interpreting the text correctly by means of examining Cather＇s motivation,characterization and meaning.Thus,the originality of her text and the pioneer spirit not only enrich the then rising American national literature,but also connect the past,present and future during the search for traditional virtues.
