The paper studies the mechanics process of destabilization of the roof bolting by means of the catastrophe theory.The points of inflection of catastrophe are analyzed in the roof bolting system.As the roof bolting system is in the state of ultimate stress,the accumulative potential energy (deformation energy,exogenic force energy,impacting energy)is the major factor for the roof bolting structure to accrue catastrophe.At the same time,the defect of the roof bolting system largely reduce the stability of whole structure system.
