Vlan将一个大型的企业网划分成多个独立的子网，这样可以避免在核心交换机上进行的广播所引起的广播风暴，同时也便于对网络进行管理。Vlan技术在网络中应用的灵活性需要更多技术协议的支持，其中主要Trunking协议和VTP。
