摘要
欧茨经过近10年的创作实践,在20世纪70年代开始形成自己的艺术创作观,并出版了一系列的文学评论集,从中可以看到她早期对于艺术的本质、功能和目的的理解。《他们》作为其早期代表作品,很好地体现了欧茨对于艺术的模仿本质、教化功能和文学改变社会现状的目的的艺术观。
Oates began to formulate her view on artistic creation in 1970s after nearly ten years of writing practice.She published several books of critical views,from which we can get to know her views on the nature,function and object of artistic creation.Them is her masterpiece composed in her early writing years and can best reflect her views.This paper,by carefully examining Them,aims to reveal Oates＇ views on artistic creation,namely,her understanding of mimetic nature,instructional function and transcending object of artistic creation as illustrated in Them.
