'Art Work' and 'Body Art',two short stories written by contemporary British novelist A.S.Byatt,both register the presence of installation,a major form of postmodern visual arts since the 1960s.Through assembling a variety of meaningful ready-made objects and artifacts, the female artists in the two stories remold the female bodies in classical and religious myths, whose creativity lends voice to their bodily pains otherwise inexpressible. The artistically retextured female bodies thus emerge as a locus for Byatt to rethink and expose the sexual violence and body politics deeply ingrained in everyday life.
