克里斯托弗·穆斯塔法·格兰特·科万先生毕业于MIT,任教于美国帕斯设计学院,现为清华大学客座教授,执教领域涉及城市规划、建筑与媒体等。在《都市媒体:整合的体验》一文中,科万提出将有形的物理世界与数字领域相整合的思想,诞生"都市媒体"这一名词。都市媒体既可以看作是一种概念过程,也可以作为一种操作系统,后者的目的就是捕捉并刻画城市社会(文化)、有形自然(环境)和虚拟(技术)方面的动态互动,目标是形成"综合智能"——一种不仅能够解决城市中心的问题,也可以解决全球面临的巨大挑战的网络。科万用他与学生为纽约、迪拜与北京设计的三个项目来说明"都市媒体"的运用。都市媒体最终将在人与城市之间形成整合体验的互动。
Over the past ten year,as a faculty at the Parsons School of Design in New York City, Mr.Kirwan has had the opportunity to advance academic research that has been the foundations for the development of the theory of Collective Intelligence This academic work,in collaboration with numerous students,faculty and partnering institutions,has been combined with his professional projects across several design fields,including architecture,urban design,web & interface design and product design in major metropolitan centers of New York,Dubai and Beijing.He has found that the most challenging and complex work is with the opportunity to integrate the physical and the digital realms - between the scale of urban planning and the ubiquitous nature of new media,hence the term urban media,
