计算机硬件平台方面最重要的进展是企业内部计算机资源的集中化，使主机系统更加具有可扩展性、安全性和更易于管理； 网络计算机、掌上电脑及其类似设备的大量增加， 促进了计算机资源的集中化， 使服务器和主机更为重要。基于Ｐｅｎｔｉｕｍ 、Ｐｅｎｔｉｕｍ Ⅱ和Ｐｅｎｔｉｕｍ Ⅲ的ＰＣ机具备工程工作站的几乎所有特征，
The most important progress made in computer hardware platform is the centralization of computing resources within an enterprise. Mainframes continue to validate itself with greater scalability, security, and manageability than other approaches. The recentralization of computing resources depends on the increasing adoption of network computers, portable computers and similar devices. Pentium, PentiumⅡ and PentiumⅢ PC systems (as personal working table) have owned almost the features of engineering working stations.
