摘要
"西楚霸王"是楚汉之际项羽为号令天下而自称的名号。然而项羽何以称西楚霸王?史书的解释并未尽如人意。本文以为,"西楚霸王"名号包含两层含义,首先是国号"西楚",其次是尊号"霸王"。项羽号"西楚",具有以"楚"承接周秦大统之意;自称"霸王",既表明项羽以力征天下,亦表明项羽自视为天下共主,具有"诸侯之长"的含义。
With an intention of conquering China,Xiang Yu claimed himself ＂conquerer of Westerm Chu＂ during the war between Chu and Han.The historical records fail to make satisfactory explanations to the reason why Xiang Yu chose that name.The writer of this paper holds that ＂conqueror of Western Chu＂ consists two meanings.The first meaning refers to the national title ＂Western Chu＂ and the second his dignitary title ＂conqueror＂ ＂Western Chu＂ indicates that ＂Chu＂ will take over the throne of Zhou and Qin and he called himself conqueror which demonstrates that Xiang Yu tried to conquer China by force and that he regarded himself as the master of China and the head of all vassals.
