On March 9,2009,President Barack Obama of the United States signed an executive order in the White House allowing federal taxpayer dollars to fund significantly broader research on embryonic stem cells, which announced the arrival of Obama era of embryonic stem cell research after it went through the administrations of Bill Clinton and George Walker Bush. This article,by reviewing the laws and policies in the history of the United States regarding embryonic stem cell research, interprets current laws and policies related to embryonic stem cell research and discusses their impact on the research. It is proposed that the political standing of President Obama,"Politics or ideology does not intervene in science",is promotive for embryonic stem cell research;yet due to the influence of Dicky amendment and the US patent system, the prospect of embryonic stem cell research in the United States is not clear.
