It was introduced that the current development state of the underwater welding and the features of the pulsed MIG welding in the paper, and detailed high pressure welding test system, and mainly discussed the changes and rules of arc shape for pulsed MIG welding under 0.1~0.7 MPa pressures air environment (which meant within the water depth of 60 m). It was proven through large amount of experiments that the arc would be compressed to a certain degree with the increase of environmental pressure, and increase of the welding current would also cause the arc length to be shortened, but the problem of arc length compression could be improved effectively by increasing the welding voltage properly. The results also showed that it was feasible to apply the pulsed MIG welding within 60 m of water depth.
