摘要 Pinker和Jackendoff(2005),Jackendoff和Pinker(2005),Hauser等(2002),Fitch等(2005)就语言机能连续辩论的焦点包括:FLB和FLN如何划分、语言进化是适应还是扩展适应。已有发现揭示,递归可能是人类独有的能力,是否为语言独有尚待研究。Pinker和Jackendoff(2005)指出语言的许多独特性,为FLN内涵提供了参考。语言独特性可能是原有机制的改造和重新整合的结果。语言是适应还是扩展适应,依赖于不同视角;语言进化应该是两者的组合。 This paper introduces to Chinese readers the debate on the faculty of language between Hauser,Chomsky,and Fitch on the one hand,and Pinker and Jackendoff on the other.One hot-debated issue is the distinction drawn between the faculty of language in broad sense (FLB) and the faculty of language in narrow sense (FLN).Another is concerning language evolution as an adaptation or exaptation.Available findings show that recursion,in all probability,is uniquely human,though its uniqueness to language remains to be investigated.Many special aspects of language as pointed out by Pinker and Jackendoff are possible candidates for FLN contents and may have resulted from modification and integration of pre-existing mechanisms.Whether language is an adaptation or exaptation depends on perspectives taken,and its evolution is generally a mixture of the two.
