Insects, including the phylogenetically basal groups Collembola, Protura, and Diplura are termed the Hexapoda. Hexapods include over one million described species that are more diverse than all other living taxa together. This conservative estimate and the real number is perhaps five to ten million in total （Wilson, 1992）.
