Objective To evaluate effect of early intervention combined with health education for prevention of adverse outcomes such as cerebral palsy of high-risk infants. Methods All the infants admitted to Early Development Center, Department of Child Health Care, Xi'an Municipal Maternal and Child Health Hospital in a period from January, 2007 to January, 2008 were selected and divided into intervention group and control group according to patient informed consent. 84 infants in the intervention group were performed early intervention and their parents received health education, while 64 infants in the control group received regular physical examination only. The developmental level of infants in the two groups at 1 year of age were evaluated with Gesell Developmental Scale. Results The scores in five domains such as adaptability, gross motor, fine motor, language, individual-society and developmental quotient (DQ) of infants in the intervention group were higher than those of infants in the control group( t = 6. 714, 4.535, 7. 554, 5. 071,6. 954, 3. 384 respectively, all P = 0.000) and the time when the infant was diadnozed as central coordination disorder was earlier than that of infants in the control group (t = -10.376 ,P = 0.000), whose curative rate was statistically higher than that in the control group( by precise probability test method: P = 0.036). Conclusion Early intervention combined with health education is helpful to prevent the sequelae of those high-risk infants.
