Two isomers of the key intermediate for semi synthetic β lactamase inhibitors——benzhydryl 6 α penicillanate 1 α (and 1β )oxide were synthesized with mild and safe activated manganese dioxide and 6%～8% peracetic acid in 57% and 75% yields respectively.
