摘要
英语是当今世界上使用最广泛的语言,英语词汇的发展变化体现了语言和社会的共变关系。英语词汇发展经历了古英语、中古英语和现代英语三个时期,其演变虽然借用了大量的外来语,但更多地反映了本民族社会历史和文化的发展和变迁。
English is the most widely used language in the world,and the development of English vocabulary represents the covariant relations between the language and the society.English vocabulary development went through three periods of time： old English,middle English and modern English,though largely using borrowing words,reflecting the development of native social history and culture.
