中世纪宫廷骑士史诗《帕西伐尔》演绎了同名主人公成长发展为亚瑟骑士和圣杯骑士的历程。它与现代成长发展小说存在本质不同。主人公成长发展于神秩之中,道路是神的召叫和恩宠,取代个体和内在性的是共同体和公共性,时空具有救赎和终末意义。圣杯喻指成长发展的终极目标,即灵性引导下的世俗统治。
The medieval chivalric epic Parzival narrates the titular hero＇s growth and development into one of the Arthurian and Grail knights. The epic has essential differences with modern Bildungsroman. The hero grows and develops in divine order, by way of holy vocation and grace, with emphasis on community and publicity rather than on individuality and internality. The time and space possess a significance of salvation and eschatology. The Holy Grail allegorizes the ultimate goal of growth and development, i. e. , the secular rule conducted by spirituality.
