《他们携带的物品》基于美国越战作家奥布莱恩的自身经历,讲述了越南战争中一个排的美国士兵的故事。本质上,战争只是弱肉强食的游戏,那些被卷入战争的普通人往往成了战争中无辜的牺牲品,人们在战争中所遭受的身体上的摧残、长期的精神伤害及纯真的丧失,即战争的罪;同时战争也给人们带来了难以摆脱的负罪感与困惑以及现实中对希望的幻灭。
The Things They Carried is one of the most representative novels written by Tim O'Brien. Based on O'Brien's personal experience, this novel tells about the stories of a platoon of American soldiers in the Vietnam War. In essence, war is just a game under the law of the jungle. In war, ordinary people swept into war usually become innocent victims and suffer from the physical destruction, permanently mental hurt and the loss of innocence, that is, the 'crime' of war. In the meantime, war brings them inevitable punishment, as well as. This paper aims to expose the ruthlessness of war through analyzing the situation and psychology of those ordinary soldiers during and after the Vietnam War, and to point out how the author presents this theme through his writing techniques.
