摘要
《说文解字·艹部》的说解有三点可商之处:一是以通名释专名,未直接点明该词语的确切名称,或曰"艹也"、"XX艹",或曰"菜也"、"XX菜";二是对《尔雅》说解正确的词语也不采纳,仍旧释为"艹也"、"菜也"。这两种说解不符合解释学的要求,也与全书条例不合;三是将一些中草药植物名词释为其他名词或形容词性、动词性词组。有鉴于此,对这些词语很有必要再作补充解释,以便读者知晓其确切名称。
The explanation of some terms under the radical ＂艹＂ in Xu Shen＇ s Origin of Chinese Characters is open to question. The problems fall into three categories ： 1 ） explaining a specific term with a general term without exact naming, defining terms either as ＂a herb＂ or ＂a kind of herb＂, or as ＂edible herbal plant＂ or ＂a kind of edible herbal plant＂ ;2） not adopting even the proper definitions of some terms of medicinal herbs included in Er Ya （ Near to Correctness） , defining them also as ＂a herb＂ or ＂an edible herbal plant＂, which is a way of defining not conforming with defining rules and not consistent with the way in which the other terms are defined or explained in this dictionary;and 3 ） explaining some terms of medicinal herbs with common terms or with adjectival or verbal phrases. It is, therefore, necessary to give some supplementary explanation to those terms that are not properly de- fined in Origin of Chinese Characters so that readers know the definite or exact names of those herbs.
