摘要
菲茨杰拉德的杰作《夜色温柔》描写了男主人公迪克·戴弗"美国梦破灭",理想沉沦的故事。小说的女主人公尼柯尔被批评家认定为他的陪衬,没有得到足够的重视。然而这部小说是以尼柯尔与其父亲的乱伦事件为核心,按照弗洛伊德的经典叙事结构"原因、结果、谴责"来叙述故事的,解读尼柯尔的思想意识对理解小说的主题至关重要。本文试图以心理分析叙事学的理论来分析尼柯尔的意识密码,还原出逐渐走出"恋父"阴影、寻求精神独立的人物形象。
E Scott Fitzgerald＇s masterpiece Tender is the Night mainly depicts its male protagonist＇s disillusionment of his American Dream. Its heroines has been believed to be his foil and neglected by critics. However, this novel centers on the incest issue and stretches over Freudian framework of cause, effect and blame, and decoding Nicole＇s mind and feelings is essential to understand the novel＇s theme. This paper intends to analyze her mind and feelings from the perspective of Psychoanalytic Narratology, conclude five clues to decode her mind and feelings and restore her image as she gradually came out of her father＇s shadow and searches mental independence.
