摘要
外语教育传统研究是语言教育领域内的一个重要研究方向。本研究致力于研究、挖掘中国华东地区优秀高校外语教师的教学传统。作者认为,"外语教育传统"的内涵就是外语教师长期以来积累的实践方法,在这些实践方法的背后蕴藏着教师的语言观、教育观和人生观。本研究以七项教学指标为分析框架,分析五位优秀教师的教学叙事,从中梳理出具有丰富内涵的外语教育传统思想和实践手段。它们是中国外语教育领域的重要学术财富,对当今外语教育事业具有重要的借鉴意义。
The study of teaching wisdom is one of the most important fields from which we gather knowledge of language education. This study aims at exploring the teaching tradition of five outstanding teachers of English whose classroom practices reflect the general trends of practitioners at large in the higher educational institutes in the eastern region of China. The authors used a qualitative approach to analyze the stories told and works authored by two representative teachers through a conceptual framework of "teaching tradition". In this framework, "tradition" is defined as time-honored practices shaped by these teachers through many years of classroom teaching. The practices, in turn, are defined by seven indicators concerning critical issues in language teaching. The results of the analysis help reveal the hidden message of these teachers' views on the nature of language, education, and their attitudes to their own career lives. In conclusion, the authors point out that these practices, together with the hidden message, should be prized as a precious asset in the Chinese tradition of foreign language education.
