英国小说家毛姆在当代英语世界中不仅是语言技艺娴熟的艺术大家,而且也是一位思想积极进步的文化行者。他早年游历中国,《在中国屏风上》是其东方游记的代表作品。在这部犹如拼贴画的文化散记中,毛姆作为游记作家的艺术功底完全展现于跨文化视域的中国历史影像中,而他作为文化行者的历史智慧则呈现为西方文化书写的新历史叙事。
In contemporary English World, Somerset Maugham is not only a skilled artist in words and dictions, but also a pioneering writer in cultures. On a Chinese Screen is the most representative work in his oriental travelogue. The author＇s artistic gifts are reflected in the cultural vision of Chinese historical pictures, while his thoughts are represented in the new history narrative of Occidental cultural writings.
