Despite the global economic crisis, China’s economy has demonstrated strong resilience, and maintained relatively robust trade and economic growth. During the first half of 2009, Government statistics indicated that Chinese GDP increased by 7.1% year-on-year. Although this was the first single-digit half year growth rate in the past 6 years, it looks like China may be on its way to achieving its 8% economic growth goal this year. The anticipated achievement of the growth target can be at least partly attributed to the 4 trillion Yuan ($570 billion) stimulus package, the government’s easing of bank loans, and total Fixed Asset Investments. FAI in the first half reached 9.1 trillion Yuan, up 33.5% year-on-year.
