本论文从《荒凉山庄》容易为读者疏漏的圣经隐喻入手,通过细致的文本分析,展现了狄更斯如何通过圣经隐喻表达对维多利亚时期的法律体系改革的幻灭,并分析了小说使用圣经隐喻的深层次原因,指明这是宗教道德化的一种表现。家庭不仅是与各种机构和法庭形成对照的退避之所,也成为医治幻灭之疾的良药,理想的家庭生活成了维多利亚时期英国人的世俗信仰。
The essay starts from the easily neglected biblical allusions in Bleak House and makes a careful textual analysis of them, which shows how Dickens manipulates biblical allusions to express disillusionment with the legal reforms in the Victorian Age. The essay argues that Dickens not only shows his disappointment with the social reforms but also appeals to ideal domesticity through biblical allusions. The novel manifests a tendency to moralize religion. As a healthy unit in a society, domestic life has become a remedy for disillusionment and a secular belief of Victorians.
