《理查德·科里》是美国20世纪诗人埃德温·阿林顿·罗宾逊的一篇代表作。诗歌从科里邻居的角度刻画了一个处处受人景仰,颇得世人钦羡的人物形象。然而,科里在一个宁静的夏夜,却用一颗子弹结束了自己的生命。这样的结尾留给读者震惊和迷惑。通过分析诗歌中的人物塑造以及措辞,可能揭开理查德·科里自杀之迷。
＂Richard Cory＂is one of representative poems composed by American poet Edwin Arlington Robinson, in which Cory is portaryed as a rich gentleman highly respected and envied by everyone in the town through the viewpoint of Cory＇s neighbours. However, the ending that he fires a bullet through his head on a serene summer night leaves us the readers in suspense. Through the analysis of the characterization and diction in the poem, this paper will probe into the enigmatic suicide of Richard Cory.
