[ Objective ] To investigate the epidemic distribution of the anti-hepatitis D Virus ( HDV ) IgM and IgG in the population of new military recruits so as to provide scientific evidence for preventive measures. [ Methods] Enzyme-Linked ImmunoSorbent Assay ( ELISA} was applied in a seroepidemiological survey to test the presence of the anti-HDV IgM and IgG in serum samples from 444 personnel recruited from 12 provinces (cities) in last 5 years, and the positive rate was statistically analyzed. [ Results] There was no positive detection for anti-HDV IgM and IgG in the whole population tested. 20 HBsAg positive samples screened from 9169 recruited personnel during 2006, 2007 period were negative to anti-HDV IgM and IgG test. [ Conclusion] HDV infection probability and potential hazard are low in this population. Quarantine inspection, vaccination and health education etc should be strengthened for the new recruits to prevent Hepatitis D.
