Based on different traditional cultures, the view of life and death between ancient Chinese and westerners presents distinctive connotations. Confucianism and Taoism play an important role in ancient Chinese culture, so their interpretations on the view of life and death are representative in China. Confucianism, focusing on practicing "Three Buihs" , lays emphasis on realistic life in order to a- chieve immortality, while Taoism pays more attention to heavenly law, which is a view of natural way. On the contrary, the view on life and death in ancient western culture, starting from the perspective of "termination" (i. e. death), advocates the idea of "soul immortality". Chinese and western literary works show different situations under the influence of different views of life and death.
