The policy hostile to China pursued by the Kishi Nobusuke government led to the decision of the Chinese government to stop trade with Japan in May 1958. The Guangzhou Chinese Export Commodities Fair then being held stopped the talks with the Japanese businessmen and the Chinese side also announced it would not fulfill the import and export contracts already signed. The responsibility for the suspension of trade relations between the two countries this time rested entirely with the Japanese government, but objectively it caused losses to both sides and created a situation unfavorable for the development of friendly relations between China and Japan. Subsequently, the Chinese government took a series of measures to make up effectively these negative impacts and created conditions for the resumption of the trade between the two sides.
