Vinegar Tom by Caryl Churchill is a socialist feminist reconsideration on witch-hunt in the 17^th century Britain. Churchill reveals women are the victims of economic and ideological oppression in the capitalist society in terms of economic production, sex and reproduction, and rebuilds the real images of socalled "witches". The play "about witches with no witches in it" unveils that the "evil" of the women accused of witchcraft is not their wickedness, but their revolt against patriarchal ideology and challenge to poverty in the capitalist society.
