IS4 peptide can incorporate into cultured rat skeletal myotube membranes and form ion channels. With patch clamp cell-attached technique single channel currents through IS4 channels can be recorded. The single channel conductances of IS4 channels are distributed heterogeneously. With different holding potentials, the mean open time, the mean closed time and the mean open probability are different respectively. IS4 channels are selective for Na+, Li+ and K+, but not for Cl?.
