Strictly speaking, the Chinese passive sentences refer to those marked by such Chinese characters as 'bei', 'jiao', 'rang' and the like. However, in a general sense, they also include sentences with passive implications but unmarked by such Chinese characters. Both the two categories, marked and unmarked passive sentences, are discussed in this paper, which will try to find out the Japanese counterparts of Chinese passive sentences with an inanimate subject.
