Raney nickel catalysts were prepared from different Ni-Al alloy precursors by NaOH leaching at 363 K. Two types of Ni-Al alloy precursors were adopted in this work, one is the traditional crystalline Ni-Al alloy (cNi_50Al_50) and another is the rapidly quenched Ni-Al ribbon (rNi_20Al_80). Temperatureprogrammed reduction (TPR) experimental results showed that the catalysts could be reduced at 573K to produce clean surfaces. The microcalorimetric adsorption measurement indicated that the Raney nickel catalyst obtained from the rapidly quenched ribbon exhibited more and stronger sites for the adsorption of CO and H_2 than the conventional Raney nickel catalyst.
