Xi you lu(The Travels of Ye-Lü Chu-cai)and Hei da shi lüe(The Brief Information of the Black Tartars)are very important materials for the study of Mongolian and Serindian histories and geographies in the first half of the 13th Century. The first edition of Xi you lu was rarely seen after the Yuan Dynasty.Fortunately, the whole handwritten copy of this edition have been kept in Japan and was rediscovered in 1926,and circulated back to China in 1927.The original edition of Hei da shi lüe had also been long lost until the Ming and Qing dynasties, when it reappeared in the form of handwritten copies. The modern Chinese scholar Shen Zengzhi was one of those who had made in-depth studies on the two books. His annotated versions are of great academic value.
