Objective To investigate the effect of nursing intervention on disease uncertainty in hospitalized breast cancer patients. Methods Eighty patients of hospitalized breast cancer were randomly divided into 2 groups. The 40 patients in the control group were treated with the general treatment and care. The patients in the intervention group were given general treatment and care with a series of psychological and nursing interventions. Patients in the two groups were measured by uncertainty in illness scale (MUIS) before and after operations and discharged from hospital. The measurement results were statistically analyzed. Results Compared with the control group, the differences of uncertainties of disease in patients of intervention group at the 12 day after operation and one day before being discharged from hospital was statistically significant ( P 〈0.01); Compared the uncertainty in illness in intervention patients 1 day before operations, the differences in patients 12 day after operations and 1 day before of the same group being discharged from hospital was statistically significant ( P〈0.01). There was no statistical significance between uncertainties in illness of patients at the 12th day after operations and before operations( P 〉0.05 ). Statistical significance was observed in patients 1 day before operation and 1 day after being discharged ( P 〈0. 01). Conclusion A series of psychological and nursing interventions could significantly reduce the diseases uncertainty in patients.
