摘要
尤金·奥尼尔有多部作品对母子关系作了细致入微的描写。他笔下的母子关系大多是畸形的,母子亲情关系中却总渗透着情欲之爱,由于违背伦理和道德,结果母子都不可避免的遭受悲剧命运的残酷惩罚。对母爱的向往和追求却使奥尼尔在最后一部作品中塑造了《月照不幸人》中乔茜这一角色,她与男主人公吉米超脱了情欲之爱,显现出了母性的光辉。
Eugene O＇ Neill is known for his profound description of mother- son relationships in many of his plays. In his early writing, mother- son relationships are always distorted. Maternal love is always mixed with sexual desire. As it is against the ethics and moral, both mother and son end in tragedy. In his last play Moon for the Misbegotten, he creates a virginal mother Josie, who shakes off the sexual desire and exhibits brilliant maternity. This mother image also satisfies O＇ Neill ＇ s thirst for ideal maternity.
