It exists in a myriad of multiple meaning, but various projections of the novel have offered unprecedented access to the hidden world of the White Whale Melville cultivated in his time, continuously engaging readers in the personal, social, and cultural context of the book, Melville' s life, and his writing process. The critical history of Moby-Dick marks a movement in the appreciation of the book from literary curiosity to masterpiece of American expression. This paper is to explore the possible prevalence of cultural theory in the study of Moby-Dick and examine how this novel is approached "after theory ".
