Abstract The paper sums up the spirit of Mr. Du Dingyou,the famous expert in library science,in following respects:devotion to library work,intensive research,pionneering spirit,arduous struggle,emphasizing practical results, the most lofty reader service, holding teachers in the greatest esteem and attaching importance to the educational undertaking,the patriotic spirit.
