Abstract In Chinese, there are two definitions on the word“Desertification”. The author studies the connotation and holds that it is necessary to make a further discussion on them. The relations and differences between the meanings of these two definitions are described. The author considers that it is of important significance to recognize the relationship between them in the process of making corresponding strategies to control desertification.
