摘要
作为"后现代科学"首倡者之一的图尔明基于后现代视角对科学合理性危机做出了诊治。图尔明认为,当代科学合理性危机导源于在"合理性"和"合乎情理性"之间失去平衡的现代理性观。基于对前现代、现代和后现代人文语境的系统考察,图尔明主张,后现代没有必要告别理性,而只需告别失衡的现代理性观,并结合后现代知识状况,回归前现代曾经有过的在"合理性"与"合乎情理性"间保持平衡的理性状态。图尔明倡导的在理论与实践、逻辑与修辞、地方性和普遍性之间保持平衡的后现代理性观,为解决科学合理性危机开辟了一条新思路。
As one of the first advocates of postmodern science,Stephen Toulmin provided the therapy for the crisis of the scientific rationality from the postmodern perspective.Toulmin claimed that the contemporary crisis of scientific rationality stems from the modern conception of reason which lost balance between rationality and reasonableness.On the ground of the systematical examination and contrast of the premodern,modern,and postmodern human contexts,Toulmin asserted that we needn's make farewell to reason,but only to the unbalanced modern reason.When the postmodern condition of knowledge is taken into account,the reason in the postmodern age should return to the balanced condition between rationality and reasonableness which ever existed in the premodern age.By advocating the postmodern conception of reason,which keeps balance between theory and practice,logic and rhetoric,locality and universality,Toulmin has just opened up a new approach to the resolution to the crisis of scientific rationality.
