摘要
美国戏剧之父尤金.奥尼尔熟知戏剧传统,在创作中又追求突破,力图在戏剧内容和表现形式上有所发展。继承与创新是解读其作品的密码。本文以《榆树下的欲望》为例,探讨了奥尼尔对象征主义、古希腊神话故事、自然主义以及超人哲学等传统元素的借鉴与革新,并在一定程度上实现了对传统的超越。
Eugene O Neil proves himself to be a tireless experimentalist in dramatic art. While rooting his plays in the profound dramatic tradition, he strives for innovation and development in both content and form in his tragic dramas. Inheritance and innovation are the key to the interpretation of his works. In Desire under the Elms O Nell employs symbolic techniques, Greek mythology, naturalistic approaches, and the Ubermenschen concept. He transplants and modifies these elements into his tragedy, and in a way achieves transcendence over the tradition.
