介绍赵焕庭研究员对华南河口海岸研究的贡献,包括珠江河口演变研究、华南海岸动力地貌与环境研究、华南海岸和南海诸岛珊瑚礁研究、组建研究队伍和编辑出版论著等方面的贡献。
Professor Zhao Huan-ting has made outstanding contributions to coastal and estuarine studies of south China, including the Pearl River estuary evolution study, coastal dynamical geomorphology and environment study, coral reef study along coasts of South China and islands of the South China Sea, and organizing coastal and estuarine research team and editing-publishing research results. The Evolvement of the Pearl River Estuary published in 1990 is his representative work on Pearl River estuary research, and it breaks through the limit of branch subject and unifies the estuary researches of geology and hydrology, and historical course and modem course of estuary evolution. Geomorphology and Environment of Coast of South China and Islands of the South China Sea published in 1999 is his representative work on the research of dynamical geomorphology of South China coast. He established the first coral reef stratum table of Quaternary in China at the reef area of the Nansha Islands and uncovered the sedimentary cycle and the change of ancient climate and ancient sea level. He made a study on engineering geological questions of coral reef as an unusual rocky-land type, and exploited a new field of engineering geology. He cooperated with Wen Xiaosheng in editing A Physical Geography of the Nansha Islands, and with Wang Ren and Song Chaojing in editing Coral reef engineering geology of the Nansha Islands. At present, Professor Zhao still dedicates himself to his cause.
